About this Workshop
Get hands-on with the full heavy highway civil estimating workflow in this three-part, highly interactive Estimating with Impact – Heavy Highway Civil Estimating workshop. From interpreting plan sets to running bid simulations, you’ll strengthen your preconstruction foundation while learning to spot risk, structure your approach, and use modern tools. Develop core estimating skills for heavy highway civil projects such as earthwork, paving, structures, and utilities delivered through modern risk-analysis and AI workflows.
Who Should Attend: Early-career civil estimators (0–3 years), project/field engineers transitioning into precon, and pros supporting DOT bids.
Workshop Outcomes:
- Identify scope gaps, key bid items, and quantity drivers in heavy civil DOT plans
- Build structured estimates using Excel and other technology tools
- Use AI prompts to run takeoffs and historical cost analysis
- Simulate a real bid day — defend and adjust numbers in teams
- Create a personal action plan for real-world application
- Recognize risks and set appropriate contingencies
**Participants will need to access Excel and Google Drive during this workshop.
Technology and Participation
For the classroom:
- Please have Zoom downloaded.
- Computer with dual monitor preferred.
- Laptop is good with a separate tablet to access the materials.
For participation:
- Camera, either built in or added on and ready to stream to the classroom.
- Headphones or earbuds with microphones are preferred.
- Computer/device mic and speakers are ok if in private, quiet room.
- Each student should be on their own computer/laptop/tablet, if possible.
- Students need access to Google Drive and Excel for this workshop
